Self-care has become somewhat of a buzzword, hasn't it?
Eerily similar to the "wuzzz uuuup" phase or the Furby craze (they still haunt me) of the early 2000s, you just can't escape its grasp.
We hear so much about the power of self-love, self-care... blah, blah, blah but we rarely go any deeper than that because we live in a popcorn society that prefers general over specifics, quick fixes over long-term solutions, and black & white thinking over gray, nuanced conversations.
The problem with the self-care rhetoric is that it barely scratches the surface of what those concepts really mean. We are beings with a mind, body, and spirit. Self-care includes more than a luxury bath (don't get me wrong, they can work wonders). But when we dig a little deeper, we'll often find that the root of every human being's issues stems from the lack of self-worth.
🧐 Do you truly believe you are worthy of love? Did you receive those messages as a child? Why do you push away every person that tries to get close to you?
🧐 Do you believe you're worthy of happiness? Why do you continue working for a company you absolutely despise? Have you ever taken the time to ponder these questions?
🧐 Do you believe you're worthy of alone time to recharge? Why do you put off setting firm boundaries around your time and space?
🧐 Do you believe you're worthy of spending money on? Why do you skimp on therapy or personal development? When was the last time you splurged on something you really want?
We know that our physical existence is very finite. Just as we inhale and exhale, we live and eventually die. If we truly felt worthy of the things we desire we'd go after those desires unapologetically... putting our needs, our wishes first.
Just as a mother gives her all to her child to ensure their success, we too, have to view ourselves through the same lens as someone who loves us and wants to see us thrive. We have to see that we're worthy of everything we desire... that means pushing past the fear of change, the opinions of others, and stepping up to be our biggest cheerleader.
What do you believe you're worthy of? When you believe you are worthy of the things you desire, all excuses fade.
Your self-worth determines every decision you make in your life. From the amount of money you make, to the way you care for your body, to the way you interact with others.
Awareness is key so take inventory on all areas of your life (ie where you live, your job, your relationships, the food you eat, your personal development, your connection to Spirit, etc). You could also take a holistic approach and assess what your ideal life would look like mentally, physically, and spiritually. Start with the areas you'd like to change first to design the life you're worthy of.
